FeyWild’s Enchanted Woods [Part 03]

It was a silent night, not unlike any other. Your kids were in bed, your wife passed out on the other side of the mattress, and rats scurried inside the walls, making their presence known. Then you woke in a cold sweat, a heavy pain crushing your ribcage. You clutch your chest and gasp for air as sweat runs down your face. Your wife does not stir.

A bright blue bulb appears out of nowhere, and somehow the sight of it calms you. The light slips out through the open window. “Strange…” you mumble. You pull on shoes and a coat, grab a lantern, and follow it into the night. It leads you through patches of grass and into a dense forest before vanishing.

Towering trees rise from thick mud, their massive roots tangled together into natural paths and bridges. Moss clings to every branch, dotted with unusually large mushrooms. This place is close to home, yet unknown. There is something spiritual about it, and strangely calming.
